Plastic! Plastic! Plastic!

There was a king who was bestowed with a power that whatever he will touch anything, the thing will convert into gold. So this power overwhelmed him and he started touching everything near him like fruits, vegetable, tree, plants etc. , Because of which at last he dies hungry and alone.

This story is also applicable on Plastic because Plastic is provided similar power to us human as touching and converting it into gold is for the king, but we as converting it into a curse as the king did by misusing it.

The origin of plastic is quite interesting and there are many stories behind it-:

     -  First, the inventor of plastic was in the search of Synthetic Gold but by chance he discovered Plastic.

    -    Second, the invention of Plastic Was to save elephant as the hunter hunt elephant for their trunk as to build Pool Ball.

These all are stories and God knows what is true and the recorded date of plastic invention is 1907 by Leo Hendrik Baekeland, a Belgian born American.
Plastic came to India in 1957 and since then making modest growth.

Plastic proves to be a Boon for the Humans in the following ways-:

1) light- Plastic is very Light in weight as all the heavy material earlier made up of other materials are now made up of plastic.

2)Cheap-  Plastic is very cheap because of which all the things are now made up of plastic from ₹1 polybag to thing costing this ₹999999999999999.............  as to make them cost-effective.

3)Durable- As plastic is very durable because 6gm of plastic jug can hold 5ltr of water.

4)Non-Porus- It haves the function of nonporosity because of which no material can pass through this as well as no material reacts with this.

5) The alternative- As there is no other suitable alternative or Substitute because

-Paper- As to make paper more pollution occurs.
-Glass- As to manufacture this 5 times more energy required.
-Bio-plastic- Similar Molecular Structure as of plastic.
-Compostable plastic- As to make plastic Compost it requires to be heated at 70°C which is again a waste of energy.

As a coin have both sides similarly plastic have some Disadvantages like-minded:

1)Non-Decomposable- As plastic is a synthetic material so it's molecular structure is unsung by nature so it's difficult for nature to decompose it.

2)Availability- The material is easily accessible because it is easy to manufacture and no limit for manufacturing so built in large quantities creating large heaps of the same.

3) Recycled value- Recycling it is not cost efficient because it's very costly to recycle them and the retail value of recycled plastic is very low.

4)Microplastic- The Microplastic is a new threat emerged which is created when the normal plastic
came in contact with UV light and saline water and break into small particle microscopic in size called Microplastic , which is a threat because it's very small in size so uncachable and if swallowed by small fish enters into our food cycle.

Plastic Stats for INDIA and related

- If you join plastic bags in ocean it will circumvent earth 4200 times.
- According to FICCI 43% of India's plastic are in packing and single use plastic.
- September 2017 report of CPCB says that India generates 25,940 tonnes of plastic waste per day.
- According to plast India foundation in 2017-18 India consumes 16.5 million tonnes of plastic.
- An indian consumes 11 kg of plastic every year and an American Consumes 109 kg.
- According to FICCI Indian Plastic industry is growing fastest in the world with 10% Compound annual growth between 2010-15.

How to Reduce plastic waste-:

1) Reduce- we should reduce our consumption of Plastic.
2) Reuse- we should again use the used plastic.
3) Recycle- We should Recycle the Waste plastic.
4) Rethink- We should rethink the the material now made up of plastic can be converted into any other things.
5) Repair- we should repair the durable thing made of plastic and continue using it.
6) Reduce- we should refuse using plastic.

At last I want to quote lines of B. Swaminathan that
"Plastic is not a Problem but littering it is a Problem"
